How MoonEase handles your data.

Published July 19, 2026 · Covers app version 1.0.0

The short version

Your favourites, mixes, and settings stay on your device. MoonEase works local-first. There are no advertising SDKs and no behavioural tracking or profiling. A simple email account on the device can unlock the app entry, but your listening history is not sent to JPott Studios as a cloud profile. MoonEase can share anonymous usage counts totals only, never your name, your sounds, or anything you typed, to help improve the app. It is on by default and you can turn it off in Settings → Privacy & usage.

Network processing happens only when a feature that needs it is used, verifying a purchase with the app store, or downloading a Premium sound pack.

What MoonEase stores on your device

The app keeps the following in private app storage on your phone:

These counters live on the device. Settings shows you the count and gives you a control to clear it. Some of these totals may also be shared anonymously, see below.

The twenty-three included sounds and all five bedtime stories are part of the app itself and work locally.

Anonymous usage counts

So JPott Studios can see which features are worth improving, MoonEase can send a small, anonymous snapshot of usage totals. This is deliberately minimal:

Sharing is on by default and you can turn it off in Settings → Privacy & usage. When on, MoonEase sends this snapshot at most once a day, and only when a usage endpoint has been configured for the build. Otherwise nothing is ever sent. The data is append-only on the server: the app can add a snapshot but can never read anyone's data back.

Local email account

MoonEase may ask you to create a simple email-based account so the app can recognise you on this device. That account record is stored locally unless a future sync service is separately configured and disclosed. Google sign-in stays off until real OAuth credentials are set up.

Protected Premium downloads

Premium sounds are not bundled into the app. They are fetched once, when you choose to download a pack.

When you do, MoonEase creates a private, anonymous download identity for you. It has no email address and no password. It is an identifier held on your device. The app uses purchase entitlement information together with that identifier to authorise short-lived download links, so protected audio is only served to someone with an active subscription.

Your saved mixes, favourites, profile, and history are not uploaded by this flow. Downloaded sound files stay on your device and play offline. You can delete the download identity from Settings → Your data see the data deletion guide.

Purchases

MoonEase Premium is a monthly or yearly subscription. Apple or Google processes the payment and provides purchase information. The app uses RevenueCat to fetch available products, validate receipts, restore access, and check whether Premium is active.

JPott Studios does not receive your payment-card details. RevenueCat and the app store may process a store receipt, product identifier, purchase status, country or storefront information, and an app-user identifier. For protected downloads, the anonymous download identifier may be associated with your entitlement status so the server can authorise protected content. See RevenueCat's privacy policy, Apple's privacy policy, and Google's privacy policy.

Permissions

PermissionWhy
NotificationsThe optional bedtime reminder that you schedule. You can decline this, or turn it off later in device settings, and the app still works.
Photos or cameraOnly if you choose a profile photo. MoonEase opens the system picker for a single image, or the camera if you choose to take one. The photo is copied into the app's private storage and stays on your device. Skip it and pick a drawn avatar instead.

MoonEase does not request your microphone, contacts, location, calendar, or health data.

Backups

You can back up your data at any time. Your device then offers destinations such as Files, email, messaging, or cloud storage. JPott Studios does not receive that file.

MoonEase backup files are ordinary JSON and are not encrypted by the app. They include your profile, session history, favourites, mixes, and theme. A custom profile photo is replaced with a default avatar in the backup, and your bedtime reminder time is left out on purpose so a restore cannot quietly re-schedule notifications. Store and send backups carefully. Once you save a file somewhere, that destination's own terms and privacy practices apply.

Keeping and deleting data

Local data stays until you delete items, clear your on-device usage data, replace data during a restore, or remove the app's data from your device. Operating-system backups and any copies you export are controlled by you and the platform you chose.

If you have downloaded Premium packs, the app provides a control to delete the anonymous download identity. See the data and account deletion guide.

Children

MoonEase is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. JPott Studios does not knowingly use the app to solicit personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through a service feature, contact us so we can investigate.
